Located next to the other Japanese stores (i.e. Nijiya, Koraku, Book-Off, etc) in Rolling Hills Plaza, this tiny shop makes AMAZING soba with quality ingredients. In fact, they import the buckwheat to make soba directly from Japan “on K-Line vessels in refrigerated containers to keep them fresh as possible.”

Perhaps it was the hangover from the previous night’s festivities, or it being almost dinner time when i woke up, or both, but I found the signature dishes, the Tan-Tan Men and the Chin-Ma Han, absolutely delicious!
The first thing that I did when the food arrived was slurp a spoonful of the broth. It was silky smooth, robust, and most importantly, INVIGORATING. Well-read in the touted health benefits of capsaicin and ma ratsu (ingredients found in Chin-Ma-Ya’s offerings), I succumbed to believing that the Tan-tan men to be another GREAT HANGOVER CURE…. until I realized that I took an Advil about 1/2 hour before. Nevertheless, I left the place full and satisfied. I will most definitely come back again.

I finally found a place in Woodland Hills that serves respectable Japanese food..

mmmMMmMmmmm
To rejoice the coming of Spring, this year’s Holi (Festival of Colors) takes place on March 1st. It is celebrated on the day of the full moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna. Ah, I wish I was in India right now!
