EM just arrived from Paris. We caught up with each other’s lives over at the best oyster spot in hipster central Los Angeles, L&E Oyster Bar.
They had a great selection of oysters on the menu that night – about 10. We started with 2 of each…. yummmmm
Drago Centro really is one of my favorite restaurants. I stop by at least once a month. And with the exception of the private room, I’ve sat at every table there and have had pretty much everything on their regular menu.
The other day, I took DH with me to revisit three of my go to dishes.
*Note: with the exception of the last photo, each dish represents a half portion of what you would normally get. I like to split entrees with my dining companion.
l’agnello. Roasted Lamb, garlic potato, tomato, onions, olive puree, bagna cauda. They cook this chunk of meat to perfection. It’s juicy and so flavorful.
Special burger to celebrate Oktoberfest. The WTF burger came with white cheddar, salt and vinegar potato chips, applewood smoked bacon, pickle chips, and stone ground mustard… all between a Hawaiian bun.
It was ok.

Been pretty busy with life and forgot about this. Last month, EM was in town from Paris, and we caught up over dinner at Picca.
Conversation was great. Food was well, okay.
EH was in town. Took her to one of my favorite kick it spots, The Bazaar.
Ate a bunch of different things.
Founded by Tom Colicchio of Top Chef fame, had a late dinner at the Los Angeles branch, where John Keenan is the Chef de Cuisine. Ate a bunch of things.
… like this green garlic risotto. yum.
This is the signature Gottsui Okonomiyaki. It has egg, pork, shrimp, squid, potato. Good drinking food.

The night started pretty awesome when I met stopped by a friend’s place in Pasadena for pa(r)tio dramming. He introduced me to 4 different whiskies that I’ve never had. My visit was short only because of dinner reservations all the way across town in Venice.
Upon arrival, I found street parking. Score!…. then met up with RA and FC for late dinner.
We had 7 very delicious things.

We debated whether or not to do the 5-course tasting menu. In the end, we had 8 dishes from the “standard” menu.
Earlier this month, I joined some of my LASC friends for a special Scotch and Water dinner at the very cool Santa Monica restaurant, Upper West. We were treated to a 5-course menu, paired with 5 different Scotch whiskies from Highland Park and The Macallan. Through out the night, in between tasty bites prepared by Chef Nick Shipp, we were entertained by Martin, one of the funniest and generous brand ambassadors I’ve ever met. Good times.
At each setting, rest drams of The Macallan Cask Strength, The Macallan 15 year, The Macallan 18 year, Highland Park 18 year, and Highland Park 25 year. We were supposed to drink them in that order.
