Happy Hour at Gyu-Kaku – Cheap and Good

April 30, 2009 Gourmet No Comments

Last night, I did happy hour at Gyu-Kaku (Sherman Oaks location) with ME, coworker, and SY, a friend from USC grad school days [It’s kind of funny that SY and I both went to UCLA and USC but have very little ‘SC pride]. We were celebrating SY’s recent engagement to her bf (they’ve been going out for 4 years or so, so it was about time!).

Anyhow, the beginning of the night got off to a good start with $.99 Draft Beer.
mmmmMmm. good stuff.

We munched on fried calamari, typical bar food. It was served with regular mayo and spicy mayo. I preferred to dip in the orange one.

We also had the Tofu Salad. It was tasty, but really nothing special. Good, nonetheless.
Ingredients include tofu, croutons, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, sesame dressing.

At $2.95/order, we ate a bunch of Kalbi Chuck, Bistro Harami, and some Sukiyaki Beef. Due to the recent swine flu scare, they weren’t serving Pork Belly. All of it was pretty good. My favorite of the bunch was the Kalbi marinated in Garlic (bottom left).

Sizzle sizzle. The service was pretty good. They swiftly changed our grill whenever we thought it was caked with too much char.

I’d come again. Cheers!

Tip:
Happy Hour at the Sherman Oaks location ends at 6:30pm.
Valet Parking is $3.50 after 5pm. Street Parking is nearly impossible to find.
