Fancy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

April 28, 2009 Gourmet No Comments

Last week, before heading out to Mood Nightclub for Party Naked (Thanks Yoshi for getting us in!), we stopped by The Nose Wine Cellar to eat some fancy grilled cheese sandwiches.

PH‘s bro and bro’s friend were testing out new recipes for the upcoming Grilled Cheese Invitational. The selection for the night was varied. Experience was good. I’d come again.

… to compliment the sandwiches, I had some Delirium Tremens, a strong pale ale from Belgium. Random Fact: Delirium Tremens was named Best Beer of the World in 1998 at the World Beer Championships.

JC had some St. Peter’s Cream Stout.. i took a sip..
.. basically tasted like Guinness..

..as for the tasting…we started with the gruyère + cheddar mix grilled on sourdough. The texture was similar to the traditional grilled cheese I’m used to.

.. the second one to come out was the pork belly (12 hours braised with dehydrated orange peels) and blue cheese… i’ve had blue cheese on steak, on my salad, and in my hamburgers, but never thought to have it in a grilled cheese sandwich…. it was interesting and good.

.. same insides.. but served between slices of ciabatta bread…
.. the meat is oozing out… soo good…

the last of the tastings… and my personal favorite….highlight…..
..jamón ibérico, blue cheese on frisée, sundried tomato….on sliced baguette…
..texture, mouth feel, taste.. the whole thing was balanced….

..second highlight…seeing my precious.. =)
..she’s visiting from japan….

our time here was capped with some vegan dessert…i’m not exactly sure what it is..
.. but it had berries.. a sort of cake at the bottom soaked with what tasted like Grand Marnier or Cointreau…topped with whipped cream…
