Komasa: My Favorite Sushi Joint in Los Angeles

March 16, 2009 Gourmet 1 Comment

One of my old UCLA friends was in town and was craving some authentic sushi. Knowing exactly where to go, we met at my favorite sushi joint in L.A., Restaurant Komasa (351 E 2nd St, Los Angeles, CA 90012) to reminisce and catch-up. Fun times.

What I like about this place is that there are no frills or fancy, schmancy rolls – just straight up fresh fish and quality service.

This place does not take reservations. Our wait time was about an hour, but you know what? It was worth it =) Because it was a chilly night, the host brought everyone waiting outside some hot, green tea in mini-styrofoam cups. Charming!

I always order the assorted sashimi platter. So fresh, so clean.

At least once a year, I eat ama ebi. It’s been a kind of tradition for me for the past 7 years. =)

A variety of sushis and my wannabe fob friend.

To round out the meal, we had some shrimp tempura. mMmMmMmmmmmmmm

Tips: This place is closed on Mondays, and they do 2-hour parking validation in the lot adjacent to the restaurant.

For dessert, we took a quick stroll through the Japanese Village Plaza to Mikawaya for some mochi ice cream.

mMmMmmmmmmm…. … cheers!
